TARDINESS

Code JHA         Issued 01/12

Purpose:  To establish the basic structure for dealing with tardiness by students

K through eighth grade students (tardy to school)

Students who are chronically late to school often suffer academically from lost instructional time.  For this reason, a record should be kept of all tardies to school.  When tardies become excessive in the opinion of the principal, he/she, in consultation with appropriate staff, will counsel the parent/legal guardian.

If after this counseling the student is persistently tardy, the principal will notify the parent/legal guardian and an intervention plan to correct the problem will be written.

If the parent/legal guardian fails to comply with the intervention plan, the principal at his/her discretion may refer the case to proper authorities for educational neglect.

For purposes of this policy, three unexcused tardies to school will constitute one unexcused absence.  Additionally, three unexcused early dismissal sign-outs will constitute one unexcused absence.  Unexcused tardies or early sign-outs are those that would not qualify as “lawful absences” under board policy.

We are so excited about the response we have received with the candy sales!  Please remember that all money must be received before additional boxes will be issued.  Please keep receipts for your records.  Write your child’s name and homeroom teacher’s name on the money envelope before returning it to school.  All candy money should be turned in by February 29th.

If there is anything I can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

January

SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH

The month of January marks the annual observance of School Board Recognition Month – a good time to salute the work of school board members and celebrate public education.

Your locally appointed trustees in Dillon School District 3 speak out for public schools by ensuring our students have the opportunity to think, work, solve problems and more.  Their decisions and actions affect the present and future lives of our community’s children.  Join us in celebrating School Board Recognition Month in Dillon School District 3.

We appreciate all that you do!
